LSUMC receives grants

. The neonatology section and Birth
Defects Center at LSU Medical Center
in Shreveport received grants totaling
$19,128 from the March of Dimes this
month.
A $12,128 grant to the Birth Defects
Center and a $7,000 supplement to an
existing $21,000 grant to the neo-natology
section were-presented by Dr.
Arthur J. Salisbury, vice president of
March of Dimes medical services.
Salisbury, of White Plains, N.Y., was
here June 9 with Vern Scheumann of
Atlanta. Ga., director of chapters; Nan-cy
Newcombe of Little Rock, regional
director; and Betty Pons of Baton
Rouge, field representative.
Meeting with them in the office of Dr.
Joseph A. Little, chief of pediatrics at
LSUMC-Shreveport, were Northwest
Louisiana Chapter leaders, including
Samuel E. Smith, chairman; Dr. Peyton
Kelley, medical advisor; and Lorraine
Kunz, executive director.
Through the Northwest chapter, the
March of Dimes has contributed about
$200,000 for care of newborns with
birth defects in this area in the past 10
years.
Dr. Harold Chen heads the Birth De-fects
Center and Dr. Arun K. Pramanik
heads the neonatology section.
