Saturday, Sept. 11, 1971 THE SHREVEPORT TIMES Med School Honors Given 13 Students Thirteen students at the Loui-siana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport received honors Friday in the school's annual awards day program. Dennis Dale Venable, a fresh-man from Monroe, received the $500 Southern Medical Associa-tion Student Scholarship. It is awarded by the association on recommendation of the school's devin with academic excellence a major factor in consideration for the award. John Mitchell Carrington, a sophomore from Shreveport, re-c e i v e d the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport Honor Award and the George David Stewart Memorial Award for Excellence in the Study of Human Anatomy. The honor award is for $270. It is based on general merit and the recipient must have establ-ished a scholastic standing in the upper fourth of his class. The Stewart award consists of $100 and a plaque and is presented annually to the stu-dent who shows the greatest proficiency in anatomy during his freshman year. Five students received Mose-by Book Awards valued at $30 each. They were Carl Joseph Richard of Arnaudville, Frank Peter Brinkman of Tyler, Tex.; Zack Therrell Buckalew III of Pineville; David Gordon Gaar of Baton Rouge and Sherman Elbert Matthews of Cotton Val-ley. James Vincent Richardson of Nacogdoches received the Pfi-zer Award and four students received L a n g e Publications Awards. They were David Wil-liam Law of Florien, Mark Seth W i c k s of Shreveport, Keith Jackson Peevy of Baton Rouge and William Anthony Russo of Monroe.
