This concerns the story on the LSU
Medical School. Facts about the school
state: there are 246 full-time faculty
members, 117 part-time faculty mem-bers
and 213 physicians in training. All
of these people are on the state payroll.
With this many physicians at the medi-cal
center, why is it that the hospital pa-tients
are treated by medical students
and the outpatient load of approximate-ly
200 a day cannot be seen for up to 12
hours at a time? It seems like the state
is not getting its money's worth.

I wish to comment about the article in
Saturday's Journal regarding LSU
Medical Center. The information pres-ented,
while impressive, did not reflect
the care being given to everyone. Why
didn't a Journal reporter sit in the walk-in
clinic waiting room to see the average
wait for a patient is about eight hours,
and sometimes longer? Why didn't the
Journal report how many patients are
being discharged, still very ill, to homes
where there has not been adequate in-struction
to the family on the care re-quired?
Why doesn't the Journal report
that many clients don't even know their
diagnosis because no one has bothered to
tell them? Or about the elderly being
sent home where there is no one to care
for them because the hospital is over-crowded?
Come on, Journal. Let's have
the real facts about LSU Medical Center.
