Wade inmate
recaptured
by police
An inmate at Wade Correction
Center who escaped from LSU Hospi-tal
by tearing a brace off his knee and
running away from guards was recap-tured
this morning by Bossier City pa-trol
officers.
The prisoner reportedly escaped
from a van parked just outside the en-trance
to the hospital. He had been
taken to the hospital for an alleged
knee injury.
Detective John Rutledge of the
Bossier City Police Department said
William M. Clement, 22, of Clayton
was arrested at a convenience store on
Hamiliton Road.
Sgt David Dull said Clement was "a
pretty good con man who could make
you feel sorry for him," and said he
may have faked his injury.
"I don't see how he could have run so
fast with a bad knee," Dull said. "I
understand he was classified as a
model prisoner at Wade, but from my
experience I know he's a good con
man."
Dull was involved in the investiga-tion
and arrest of Clement in August
1982 for the burglary of a pharmacy.
He was serving a five-year-sentence.
