Are Diverted
BATON ROUGE, May 12 (Spe-cial)—
Funds originally meant to
pay for Shreveport's $1,890,000 post
graduate medical school will be
used for paying part of the state's
operating costs.
A state officer said today the
money is included in administra-tion
attempts to find an extra
$15,000,000 for the budget..
At first, the Budget Committee
said the budget would amount to
some $424,000,000, but the state
official said today the extra
$15,000,000 would hike it to about
$440,000,000.
Since bonds were sold, it will
require a legislative act to trans-fer
the money to use in state opera-tional
costs.
The proposed medical school,
once expected to bring national
medical attention to Shreveport,
was authorized under the Kennon
administration.
But it met objections from LSU
President Troy Middleton and Gov.
Earl Long stopped construction,
even though some $30,000 had been
spent in construction of founda-tions.
