Medical Record Workshop
The Northwest Louisiana Medical Re-cord
Association will hold its fourth annual
workshop Friday at Willis-Knighton Medi-cal
Center.
Program topics and guest speakers will
include "First Aid and Safety: Poisoning,"
Mark Middlebrooks, M.S., R.Ph., Poison
Control Center, LSU Medical Center; "Ov-erview
of Quality Assurance Activities in a
400-Bed Medical Center," Lynn Shipp,
R.R.A., and Mary Flo Kelly, R.R.A., St.
Francis Medical Center, "Future Trends in
Hospitals," Alan Beason, education direc-tor,
Willis-Knighton Medical Center, spe-cial
address, Betty Scriber, R.R.A., presi-dent-
elect of Louisiana Medical Record
Association; "Current Medicolegal
Aspects," Mark Gallinghouse, attorney,
Veterans Administration District Counsel,
New Orleans; "Amendment of Medical
Records," Judy Boogaerts, R.R.A., Veter-ans

Program for Physicians
A day-long program, "Tuberculosis and
Acute Pneumonias," will be presented for
area physicians Friday by the departments
of medical education and pulmonary medi-cine
at Schumpert Medical Center and the
department of pulmonary medicine at the
LSUS School of Medicine. The program
will be held in the Schumpert auditorium
from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
An update on causes and treatment of
Legionnaires' Disease will be presented
during the morning session.
Guest speaker will be Joseph H. Bates,
M.D., professor of medicine and biology at
the University of Arkansas for Health
Sciences; chief, medical service, VA Medi-cal
Center, Little Rock, Ark. Bates, recog-nized
nationally as an expert in the treat-ment
and diagnosis of pulmonary diseases,
including pneumonia, tuberculosis and Le-gionnaires'
Disease, has written extensive-ly
on these subjects in numerous pro-fessional
journals and spoken to pro-fessional
groups on these subjects through-out
the country.
Win Dinner With J.R.
Want to have dinner with actor Larry
Hagman?
All you have to do is enter a nationwide
contest for suggestions on how to quit
smoking — and win.
Hagman, best known for his role as J.R.
Ewing on the television series "Dallas" and
once a heavy smoker, is now the American
Cancer Society's top volunteer spokesman
on the subject of breaking the cigarette
habit for the sake of one's health.
Grand prize in the contest will be a
three-day, expenses paid vacation for the
winner and a friend in Hollywood, includ-ing
dinner with Hagman as his guests.
Winner in the Northwest Louisiana area
will receive dinner for two at a Shreveport
restaurant.
"It's really very simple," says Hagman.
"What I want is an idea that's feasible,
useful, achievable, original, different, un-usual,
unique, creative, inventive, im-aginative,
well articulated, legible and in
good taste."

words or less and
postmarked no later
than midnight Sun-day,
Sept. 27. All let-ters
become the
property of the
American Cancer So-ciety.
For the name of the winning entry,
send a self-addressed, stamped envelope
along with your entry.
The contest is open to residents of the
United States except employees, board and
committee members of the American
Cancer Society, its advertising agencies
and their respective families.
Judges of the national competition will
evaluate entries 45 percent on originality,
45 percent on practicality and 10 percent
on clarity of the suggestions that are
received.
