The committee is
made up of 11 members

from experts in en-d
o c r i n o l o g y and
metabolism, statistics,
and related areas. Most
of the committee's
work deals with the ap-proval
of new drugs for
marketing in the Unit-edf
States, but it also
advises the Com-missioner
of Food and
Drugs about drugs al-ready
on the market.
Dr. Loewenstein has
been a member of the
faculty at LSU School
of Medicine since 1970.
LSU Gets
Research Grant
A scientist at LSU
Medical Center is con-ducting
research to de-velop
a new vacine
against a common or-ganism
that can cause
complications to pa-tients
who have cystic
fibrosis, severe burns
and cancer.
Financed by a two-year
grant of $91,575
from the American
Cancer Society, Dr.
Harry Gilleland, as-sociate
professor of mi-crobiology
and im-munology
has under-taken
the project en-titled
"Development of
an Outer Membrane
Protein Vaccine for
P s e u d o m m o n a s
aeruginosa."
Berg Elected
To Board
