20 Area Citizens Named to This Year's 'Who's Who in America'
Twenty area citizens have been
named to this year's "Who's Who in
America."
Shreveport residents who are on
the list are Louis Andrew Breffeilh,
Van Cliburn, Edwin Earle Dilworth.
Ronald Baylis. George. Billy Earl
Harrell, Richard. Melvin Jamison,
Emil Kotcher, Joseph. Alexander-Lit-tle,
John Clifton McDonald, Helmut
Max Redetzki, Adrian Faragher
Reed, Donald A r t h u r Webb and Jim
Wilhite. Named from Bossier City
was Vince Bartimo.
Breffeilh is a professor of
ophthalmology at LSU School of
Medicine. He lias been a senior con-sultant
with the United States Air
Force and Veterans Administration
Medical Center since 1950. He has
been president of Breffeilh and Tex-ada
Medical Foundation from 1971 to
the present.
Cliburn is a concert pianist and
classical music composer. He has
appeared with the Dallas Symphony
Orchestra and the Philharmonic Or-chestra.
He also has appeared at
Carnegie Hall and made his debut in
1947 with the Houston Symphony
Orchestra.
Dilworth has been a clinical pro-fessor
at LSU School of Medicine
from 1967 to the present. He is a
member of the Central Association of
Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the
Southeastern Association of Ob-stetrics
and Gynecology.
George has; been a professor of
medicine at LSU Medical Center
since 1974 and head of the depart-ment
of medicine since 1978. He also
is the chief of medical service at the
VA Medical Center.
Harrell has been a utility, explora-tion
and chemical executive for
Arkla Gas Co. since 1947. He was
president of the United Fund Board
in 1971 and is a member of the
American Gas Association, Mid-Con-tinent
Oil and the Gas Association.
Jamison has been a virologist at
LSU Medical Center since 1970. He
has been a professor of microbiology
and immunology for two years and is
a former vice president of the
Shreveport Civic Opera Association.
Kotcher is a microbiologist and
head of the department of micro-biology
and immunology at LSU
School of Medicine. He is a member
of the American Society of Tropical
Medicine and Hygiene, the American
Society of Microbiology and the
American Society of Parasitology.
Little has been a pediatrician in
Shreveport since 1970. He is pro-fessor
and head of the department of
pediatrics at LSU Medical Center
School. He is a member of the Ameri-can
Pediatric Society and the Ameri-can
Heart Association.
McDonald is a surgeon-in-chief at
LSU Medical Center. He is a consul-tant
for North West Louisiana Emer-gency
Medical Services and is chair-man
of the department of surgery at
LSU School of Medicine. He was the
1977 receipient of the Owl Club
award for outstanding teaching at
Tulane University.
Redetzki is a professor and head of
the department of pharmacology and
therapeutics at LSU Medical Center.
He has been director at the LSU
Poison Control Center from 1977 to
the present. He is a consultant for the
clinical pharmacology department
at VA Medical Center and the Food
and Drug Administration.
Reed is an anatomist and physi-cian.
He has been a professor emer-itus
at LSUS from 1977 to the present.
He is a former professor and head of
the department of anatomy at LSUS.
Webb is president of Centenary
College and a member of the
Shreveport Chamber of Commerce.
He was a director for C and C from
1978-79. He is the author of several
plays.
Wilhite has been an executive with
Arkla Gas Co. since 1963. He has
been an executive vice president in
charge of employee and industrial
relations there since 1973. He is a
member of the board of directors at
the Central YMCA and is a member
of Mid-continent Oil and Gas, the
Shreveport Chamber of Commerce
— where he is a director — and the
Louisiana Association of Business
and Industry.
Vincent Bartimo of Bossier City
also has been named to Who's Who.
He is president and general manager
of Louisiana Downs. He also is presi-dent
and chairman of the board for
the Pittsburg Penguins of the Na-tional
Hockey League.
Rene Joseph Bienvenu of Natchi-toches
has been named to the 1980
Who's Who. He has been president of
Northwestern State University and
director of the Natchitoches
Chamber of Commerce since 1978.
He is a member of the American
Society of Microbiology, the Louisi-ana
Council of Deans and the As-sociation
of Practitioners in Infec-tion
Control.
Four Ruston residents have been
named to the list. They are Hal
Barker, John Louis Murad, Bob R.
Owens and Paul Pennington.
Joseph Benjamin Johnson of
Grambling also has been named to
the 1980 list. He has been president of
Grambling State University since
1977.
