WEDNESDAY, MAY 5, 1971 THE SHREVEPORT JOURNAL, SHREVEPOR
MEDICAL OFFICERS—Delegates to
the annual meeting of the Louisiana
Medical Society in Lafayette Tuesday
elected Dr. E. M. Harrell (left), Lafay-ette,
president, and Dr. Eugene C. St.
Martin (right), of Shreveport, president-elect.
Other new officers include Dr.
James H. Stewart of New Orleans, first
vice president; Dr. F. Michael Smith,
Thibodaux, second vice president, and
Dr. A. W. Beacham, Lafayette, third
vice p r e s i d e n t . The meeting ended
following election of officers and pres-entation
of awards.
Local Doctor
Is Named To
LMS Position
A Shreveporter was elected
an officer of the Louisiana
Medical Society at the group's
annual meeting Tuesday in
Lafayette, while one of the
society's top awards went to
another local physician.
Dr. Eugene St. Martin, local
urologist, was named presi-dent-
elect of the society, de-feating
Dr. Frank J. Allen,
Baton Rouge internist, for the
post. Dr. St. M a r t i n will
automatically become presi-dent
next year.
The group's first "Distin-guished
Service Award" went
to Dr. Edgar Hull, dean of the
Louisiana S t a t e University
Medical School in Shreveport.
The award was for outstand-ing
service to the medical
profession and specifically for
Dr. H u 11 's "work as an
internist, cardiologist and
especially a teacher."
Other new officers of the
society include Dr. James H.
Stewart of New Orleans, first
vice president; Dr. F. Michael
Smith of Thibodaux, second
vice president, and Dr. A. W.
Beacham of Lafayette, third
vice president.
Dr. J. W o o d f i n Wilson,
Shreveport i n t e r n i s t , was
elected c o u n c i l o r for the
Fourth District, Dr. Ralph
Riggs, also of Shreveport, was
re-elected delegate to the
American Medical Assn.
The election of officers and
Dr. Edgar Hull
resolutions were passed in a
closed meeting of the house of
delegates at the closing ses-sion
of the convention. LMS
official Paul Perrett said the
meeting was closed because
"we don't wash our dirty linen
in public."
