E. P. Whitaker
VA Hospital
Head Being
Transferred
E. P. Whitaker, director of the
Veterans Administration Hospi-tal
here since 1965, has been
transferred to the Dallas, Tex.,
VA Hospital.
Whitaker's tenure here will be
up June 27 and his replacement
will be announced before that
date.
The Dallas institution is one of
the larger and considered one of
the prestigious centers of the
VA system.
It has 785 beds (the local
hospital has 450) and is one of
the major research centers of
the system, with special pro-grams
such as an organ trans-plants
program, and open heart
surgery, and it is a dental
prosthesis center.
A total of 1,500 employes are
a t t a c h e d to the center, as
compared to 600 here.
It is c o n n e c t e d with the
University of Texas, Southwest
em School of Medicine.
The Shreveport yA hospital
has undergone major changes
since Whitaker took over the
reins six years ago.
It has been completely reno-vated,
has added an intensive
care unit, and a radioscope
program. The x-ray department
and the laundry room have been
re-equipped.
The hospital has been affiliat-ed
with the Louisiana State
University Medical School at
Shreveport since 1965.
Whitakfjf came to Shreveport
from the McKinney, Tex., Vet-erans
Administration Hospital,
where he served as director.
Whitaker is past president of
the Northwest Hospital District,
and recently resigned as a
member of the Board of Direc-tors
of the Louisiana Hospital
Association.
He is a m e m b e r of the
Shreveport Rotary Club, the
Elks Club, the American Legion
and the Veterans of Foreign
Wars.
He is a fellow of the College of
Hospital Administrators.
Mr. and Mrs. Whitaker, the
former Katherine Compton of
Atlanta, Ga., have one daugh-ter,
Mrs. Donald Lamb of
Memphis, Tenn.
