Dr. Erich K. Lang

Cites Local
Radiologist
Dr. Erich K. Lang, head of
the Department of Radiology,
Shreveport School of Medi-cine,
was named fourteenth
recipient of an LSU Distin-guished
Faculty Fellowship
during ceremonies held in
Baton Rouge Friday at a
meeting of the LSU Founda-tion
Board of Directors.
LSU Foundation President
Robert H. Crosby presented
checks for $1,000 and com-memorative
plaques to Dr.
Lang and Dr. Frank J.
Germano, head of the Depart-ment
of Civil Engineering on
the Baton Rouge campus.
ALSO HONORED was Dr.
Owen M. Peterson, professor
of speech in Baton Rouge,
who received the $1,000 Hub
Cotton Award and plaque
from Crosby.
Dr. Lang, who earned an M.
S. degree from Columbia
University and his M.D. de-gree
from the University of
Vienna, was an associate and
instructor in r a d i o 1 o g y at
Johns Hopkins Hospital and
University, and then a prac-ticing
radiologist. Dr. Lang
has served as secretary of the
American College of Chest
Physicians, and holds mem-bership
on the A m e r i c a n
board of Nuclear Medicine.
DR.. LANG. HAS published
66 major scientific articles,
including "The Differential
Diagnosis of Renal Cysts and
Tumors," and "The Preven-tion
and Treatment of Compli-cations
Following Arterior-graphy."
He has presented
more than 100 papers at
professional meetings around
the world, and authored "ar-teriography
of Thoracic Outlet
Syndrome," his fourth book.
Dean Edgar Hull of the
School of Medicine in Shreve-port,
described Dr. Lang as
possessing "boundless energy
which has served to catalyze
activities of our faculty and of
our student body."
THE DISTINGUISHED Fac-ulty
Fellowships was, created
in 1965 to honor members of
the LSU Faculty who have
distinguished themselves by
their academic activities and
other contributions to the
University, its students and
faculty.
All faculty members of the
LSU System are eligible for
the award, and must be
nominated by other faculty
members. Recipients are se-lected
by an eight-member
faculty committee appointed
by the President of the LSU
System with the directors of
the LSU Foundation and
Alumni Federation sitting on
the committee in an ex officio
capacity;
The awards are funded by
the LSU Foundation from an
unrestricted fund and from
the H. B. Hub Cotton Founda-tion.
The LSU Foundation is a
tax-exempt, nonprofit organi-zation
formed in 1960 dedicat-ed
to the academic improve-ment
of the LSU System
through the use of private
gifts.
