9-9-72 Freshmen Introduced Seventeen Medical Students Win Honors at Convocation By Margaret Martin Times Medical Writer Seventeen students were hon-ored and the freshmen students introduced at the Awards Con-; vocation of the Louisiana State University Medical School yes-terday at the Veterans Adminis-, tration Hospital. Dr. Edgar Hull, dean of the] school, who has retired effective July 1978, spoke to the students. It was the first time there have been freshmen, sophomore, jun-ior and senior classes. Awards went to: Dennis Dale V e n a b l e of Monroe — The George David Stewart Memorial Award for E x c e 11 e n c e in the study of Human Anatomy, the award vear, in the opinion of the Department of Anatomy, has shown the greatest proficiency in that subject. David Marshall Walsworth — of West Monroe — South Medi-cal Association Student Scholar-ship, cash award made to a student by the SMA on recom-mendation of theidean. Academ-ic excellence is a major factor in consideration for the award. Kenneth Eugene Harper of Baton Rouge — Alumni Federa-tion Top 100 Scholars Award. Glen Rodney Saucier of Alex-andria; John M. Carrington of Shreveport, and William E. Haley of French Settlement — LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport Honor Award given to students nominated by the dean of the School of Medicine. Nominees are selected on the basis of general merit, but must have established a scholastic standing in the upper one-fourth of the class. The award is; renewable for three years. Carl J. Richard of Arnoud-ville; Sherman E. Matthews of Cotton Valley; William A. Russo of Monroe, Zack T. Buckalew III of Pineville, and Roy F. Brabham Jr. of Shreveport — The Moseby Book Awards, giv-en each year to five students selected by the Committee on Student Affairs. Carl E. McLemore Jr. of, Morganza; Mark W. Callaway of Shreveport; Daniel J. Moller Jr. of Baton Rouge; William E. Haley of French Settlement; Kenneth P. Mauterer Jr. of Olla, and David G. Gaar of; Baton Rouge — Lange Publica-tions Book award, given to two outstanding students from each class. New freshmen students and; their undergraduate school whoj registered Thursday and Friday from Shreveport are David C. Carpenter, Northeast Louisiana University; George W.
