Crisis Intervention
Is Session's Theme
Crisis Intervention will be
the theme of the 9th annual
Physicians' and Ministers
Day which will be held March
23 at 9:30 a.m. at Schumpert
Memorial Hospital.
All physicians and ministers
in the area are eligible to
participate. It is sponsored by
the Committee of Medicine
and Religion of the Shreveport
Medical Society and the
H o s p i t a l Workshop
Committee of the Shreveport -
B o s s i e r Ministerial
Association.
Principal speakers for the
session are Dr. William
Hulme, professor of pastoral
counseling of the Lutheran
Theological Seminary, and
director of the Ministry of
Social Action Training
Program, Minneapolis, Minn.,
and Dr. Nathan J. Bender,
Shreveport psychiatrist and
c l i n i c a l professor of
psychiatry at the Louisiana
State University School of
Medicine in Shreveport.
Hulme holds the B.S. degree
from Capital University, the
bachelor of divinity from
E v a n g e l i c a l Lutheran
Theological Seminary,
Columbus, Ohio, and the
P h . D . from. Boston
University.
He has served as a pastor in
Columbus, Ohio; professor at
Wartburg College; tutor at
Oxford University, England,
and visiting professor at the
Divinity School, University
School of Chicago, Institute of
Religion at the Texas Medical
Center, Houston, and the
Lutheran School of Theology
at Chicago.
He has published 15 books
and numerous articles in a
variety of theological
journals.
Bender holds the B.S. and
M.D. degrees from Tulane
University, New Orleans.
He took his residency in
neuropsychiatry in Denver,
Colo., and Philadelphia, Pa.
Hulme's topics will be
"Crisis Intervention —
I n t e r p r o f e s s i o n a l
T e a m w o r k , " "Crisis
Intervention — Utilizing the
F a m i l y , " and "Crisis
Intervention — The Aftermath
of the Crisis "
Bender's topics will be "The
Night Sea Journey: A
Spiritual Crisis."
The Rev. Kenneth Gibson,
chairman of the Hospital
Workshop Committee, will
preside at the morning
session, and Dr. Charles L.
Black and Dr. Joe E.
Holoubek, cochairmen of the
Committee of Medicine and
Religion will preside at the
afternoon session.
Dr. Albert Hand, president
of the Shreveport Medical
Society, and Rabbi Emanuel
Kumin, president of the
Ministerial Association, will
give the welcome.
The Rev. Arthur Sanders
Jr., pastor of the First
Lutheran Church, will
introduce the speakers.
