LSUS, Medical School to Spend $5.5 Million
Salaries and other expend-itures
at Louisiana State
University a n d the LSU
School of Medicine in
Shreveport will amount to
more than $5.5 million dur-ing
the 1972-73 school year,
according to estimates re-leased
by the Shreveport
| Chamber of Commerce.
A A total of $3.7 million is
reported to be allocated to
the medical school, while
$1.98 million will be budget-ed
to the university.
The chamber's report re-v
e a 1 ed that construction
valued at more than $5
million has been completed
at LSU-Shreveport since its
establishment in 1966.
Capital outlays at the
medical school have
amounted to approximately
$31 million since 1969.
Enrollment at LSUS for
the approaching academic
year was estimated at 1,871,
while enrollment at the
school of medicine is ex-pec'ed
to be 147.
The report noted that each
medical student spends ap-proximately
$5,000 annually
and that a total of 500
students is expected to be
enrolled at the school by
1979. The estimated budget
for that year is $13 million.
Enrollment at LSU-S is
expected to increase to 3,595
by 1975. The operating budg-et
for that year was listed
as $3.63 million.
