Robert C. Hall Dr. Edgar Galloway
Confederate Acting
Director Is Revealed
By Margaret Martin
Of The Times Staff
Robert C. Hall, assistant ad-ministrator
at Confederate Me-morial
Medical Center, has been
named acting director of the
institution, effective today at 8
a.m., according to Harold K.
Quinn, chairman of the hospital
board of directors.
He replaces Dr. Edgar Gallo-way,
who has worked as direc-tor
of the hospital on three
different occasions since 1940
for a little better than 22 years.
Quinn also announced that a
doctor will be named associate
medical coordinator to work on
a part-time basis will be named
at a later date. The physician
has not been selected yet, ''but
it will be someone on the staff
or the visiting staff."
Although the board accepted
Galloway s resignation Aug. 25,
yesterday's announcement came
as a surprise, since Galloway
had agreed to stay on until a
new director was hired.
Quinn said the Selection Com-mittee,
headed by Anna Laura
Wilder of Homer had made
H a l l ' s appointment "at Dr.
Galloway's insistence." Gallo-way
had no comment on the
move.
Being Interviewed
Hall, who has been associated
with the hospital since 1961, is
among those being interviewed
for director. Many applicants
are being considered for the
post, though, Quinn emphasized.
(Up until a recent board meet-ing,
only a doctor could be
administrator at the hospital.
The board voted to change the
bylaws, paving the way for a
trained hospital administrator
who is a layman.)
There is widespread interest
in the Confederate post because
the facility is the teaching
hospital for the LSU School of
Medicine at Shreveport.
Hall received his B.S. degree
from Louisiana State University
and has completed work toward
a master's degree in accounting
from LSU.
He is a member of the
Shreveport and Louisiana chap-ters
of Certified Public Accoun-tants;
the American Institute of
CPAs and is a nominee of the
American College of Hospital
Administrators.
He is clinical professor of
medical administration for the
LSU Medical School at Shreve-port.
As assistant administrator he
handled many business and fi-nancia
operations of the hospi-pital
and represented Galloway'
from time to time.
He appeared before many
governmental bodies on behalf
of Confederate, including the
Legislative Budget Committee,
the Senate Finance Committee,
the Department of Public Wel-
; fare and the Division of Admin-istration.
