University System Board of Su-pervisors.
Selection of Dr. Grulee ended
a 15-month national effort by a
special seven-member faculty
search committee to fill the
dean's position.
He will join the faculty of
the School of Medicine as
dean-designated on March 1,
1973, and will assume the

out that in serving as dean-des-ignate

the advantage of being able to
'familiarize himself thoroughly,
with the assistance of Dr. Hull,
prior to Dr. Hull's retirement."

A pediatrician with nearly two
decades of administrative expe-dience,
Dr. Grulee also claims
strong professional and personal
ties to Louisiana.

September, 1969. It now has 149
students in its four classes and

Chancellor Stewart, in his rec-ommendation
to the b o a r d ,
termed Dr. Grulee "the unani-mous
choice of the faculty
search committee of the School j
of Medicine, after having given
consideration to nearly 150 po-tential
deanship candidates.
"This recommendation also
bears the approval of the gen-eral
faculty of the school, as
well as the student body, and
the medical community of the
Shreveport area," Chancellor
Stewart emphasized.
"A distinguished physician,
scholar and administrator, Dr.
Grulee possesses the experi-e
n c e , academic background,
enthusiasm, vigor and ability to
continue the development of the
School of Medicine in its next
phase of growth, encompassing
the next five years. I am there-fore
delighted to give him my
unqualified recommendation,"
Dr. Stewart concluded.

under construction adjacent to
the Confederate Memorial Medi-cal
Center. It is a $25 million
high-rise structure, which Is j
now approximately 20 per cent
complete.
Retirement of Dr. Hull from
University Service will end a
career in academic medicine
dating from September, 1931,
at which time he joined the
LSU Medical Center faculty
as an instructor of medicine
in the School of Medicine in
New Orleans, the original pro-fessional
school of the Medical
Center, which admitted its
first medical students Oct. 1,
1931, Chancellor Stewart said.
"During the 41-year period,
Dr. Hull rose through the aca-demic
ranks to assistant, asso-!
date and full professorship, and
has additionally served as act-ing
dean, as well as associate
dean and head of the Depart-ment
of Medicine of the School
of Medicine in New Orleans, the
