Times Capital Bureau
BATON ROUGE — The Legis-lative
Budget Committee
Wednesday okayed the transfer
of $75,000 to finish a new
laboratory at the Veterans Ad-ministration
Hospital in Shreve-port
for use by the new LSU
Medical School.
At the same time, however, the
committee senl a letter to LSU
officials saying that the transfer
for funds did not necessarily
mean that the Budget Committee
would be able to find funds for
the school to open in September.
A spokesman for the division
of administration told the com-mittee
the school would need an
additional $4 million to open in
the fall.
Rep. Lonnie Aulds of Shreve-port
disagreed. He said it would
only take an additional $2
million.
Aulds told the committee that
if it wanted to consider prevent-ing
the medical school from
opening that it would also
onsider doing away with some
tate agencies not as vital as the
[medical school.
He pointed out that the school
as already accepted its first
lass.
