Here $20,963
Louisiana S t a t e University
Medical School at Shreveport has
received $20,963 from the U.S.
Department of Health, Education
and Welfare for loans and
scholarships.
Word of the funds came in a
telegram from Sens. Russell B.
Long and Allen J. Ellender and
Rep. Joe D. Waegonner Jr.
The $20,9fi3 includes $11,219 in
scholarships and $9,744 in loans.
LSU received the money "due
to LSU's participation in the
Health Professions Student Loan
and He-alth Professions Scholar-ship
Programs."
Dr. William McElroy, dean of
student affairs at LSU, said to
receive one of the scholarships
or loans "a student must come
from a family with an income of
less than $10,000 and must show
a real need in black and white."
Loans are paid back at a three
per cent interest rate, Dr.
McElroy said.
