Dr. Gerald S. Berenson, presi-dent
of the Louisiana Heart
Association and professor of
medicine at Louisiana State
University in New Orleans, will
be the guest speaker at the first
meeting of the year of the
Northwest Heart Unit, Friday,
Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the
Petroleum Club, according to
Jack Williamson, president of
the local Heart Unit.
Another highlight of the meet-ing
will be the presentation of
awards for outstanding service
in the 1971 Heart Fund Cam-paign
held in February. The
presentations will be made by
Dr. James W. Wilson Jr.
immediate past-president of the
Northwest Heart Unit and of the
Louisiana Heart Association.
Dr. Williamson, president of
the l o c a l Heart Unit, will
preside at the meeting. The
Northwest Heart Unit, formerly
the Caddo Heart Council, is the
local basic organization repre-s
e n t i n g the Louisiana Heart
Association, an affiliate of the
American H e a r t Association.
The group's purpose is combat-ing
premature death and disa-bility
from cardiovascular dis-ease.
Members of the Heart Unit
are composed of physicians and
volunteers from throughout the
area. Other o f f i c e r s of the
N o r t h w e s t Unit are Dr. J.
Stanford Shelby, vice president.
0. A. Griffey III, treasurer, and
Mrs. John M. Holden, secretary.
Dr. Berenson will also partici-pate
in the one-day meeting to
be held Saturday, Sept. 11, at
piratory Association.
