The Green Gold Pilot Library
System for Northwest Louisiana
T h u r s d a y awarded almost
$50,000 in grants to member
public and college 1 i b r a r ies
throughout the eight-parish
area.
The grants were made during
a meeting of the executive
council of the library system.
The monies are a part of the
$100,000 the pilot program re-ceived
for its first year of
operation and will be used by
the libraries in adding to book
collections.
The grant was made through
the Federal Library Services
and Construction Act and ad-ministered
by the Louisiana
State Library in Baton Rouge.
Jack Mulkey is system director.
Public libraries awarded
grants on the basis of 10 cents
per capita were:
Caddo, $22,553; Bossier,
$6,438; Red River, $905; Bien-ville,
$1,547; Claiborne, $1,655;
Sabine, $1,804; Webster, $3,877;
and DeSoto, $2,220.
The college library reimburse-ment
rate was four cents per
volume.
Grants received were: Loui-siana
State University-Shreve-port
and LSU Medical School-
Shreveport, $1,600 each; Cente-nary
College. $4,000; and South-ern
University-Shreveport Bos-sier
campus, $680.
