Description	Valenten Layssard, was a Spanish army captain at Tapides Post, Louisiana. An itemized list of expenses incurred by Layssard for the capture, guard, and return of American military deserters from the command of Major Pike [i. e. Zebulon M. Pike], the American commandant at Loftis Heights, Mississippi. Expenses include: hiring military staff, wages, and provisions. The itemized list accompanied a letter Layssard sent from Rapides, Louisiana, to Major Pike.

Viz. for a Guard Consisting of one Sergeant. One Corporal and Twelve Militia four days at four bitts each per Day is Twenty Eight dollars $.. 28.... For Maintainance of a Guard Consisting of a Sergeant. one Corporal and Twelve Men, and Nine prisoners four days, and provision for their Voyage to Loftis's Heights furnished by Stephen Tippet as per His Bill, Amounting to Ninety three Dollars........ 93..
