Dear Sir [Thomas Cutts]
The Orleans mail has just arrived
bringing letter of the 20th of Jany [January]. The British army
retreated and [reembarked?] on the night of the 18th of
Jan. leaving some of the wounded in camp, and
20 pieces of artillery - a few Brisances [i.e. brisance] were taken.
The British acknowledge a loss of 4500 men in all
the different engagements since the arrival on
the coast - probably it is much greater.
