Description	Text, November 2, 1877. Was She a Man, or Was He a Woman? The Question Settled. Description of a man dressed as a woman from Caddo Parish, who fooled the court system upon his arrest and was tried as a woman for petty crimes. The man's name was Ben Jane Jones. His entire life, the man had dressed like a woman and had a "voice [that] was feminine." The man's true gender was discovered upon his imprisonment in the women's penitentiary when the inmates there complained.
