Chickamauga (Ga.), Battle of, 1863 Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park (Ga. and Tenn.)--Photographs |
| Notes | The board on telegraph pole in right hand corner, marks the position on the McDonald farm, in the field which is planted in corn, where Slocomb's Battery came into action for the third time on the morning of 20th September, 1863, and opened on the enemy in the woods to the south of the field, clearing the way for a charge of Adams' Louisiana Brigade. The road runs north and south, the view is taken from the east side of it, looking southwest. The McDonald farm is the extreme right of the fighting of Bragg's infantry line, and is the first prominent location on the Chattanooga and Lafayette road as you approach the battlefield from Chattanooga. Position fixed September 24th, 1894, by the Louisiana and National Commissioners, marked and noted by E. E. Betts, engineer of the National Commission. |
