[PHOTO CAPTION READS] A IS FOR ANATOMY in the alphabet of these four coeds, freshmen at the Louisiana State university school of medicine. Part of the record number of girls entering the school this year, they are, from left to right, EVA COX, JEAN PERSONS, GLORIA MILLER and ELBESS TREUIL. (New Orleans States Photo.)[ARTICLE READS] Carving cadavers is a curious role for coeds. But peer through the doors of the anatomy laboratory at the Louisiana State university school of medicine any morning and you'll see 20 of the fairer sex of freshmen holding their own with 77 of the male M. D.'s-to-be. This year's class marks a record invasion of the medical field by women at LSU and brings the total of females in the institution up to an all-time high of 43, Mrs. Vivian Johnston, registrar, reported. Last year there were 13 freshman girls; in past years as few as two or three: Why is this feminine vogue for wearing a doctor's insignia spreading? Is it a continuation of the rend upsetting that old rule of the superiority of men?
