But Not All Agree on Degree of Condition
Nine physicians testified in St. Bernard Friday that Frank N. Chisesi Jr. was mentally ill at the time of the killing he is accused of committing.
The degree of mental illness is an all-important factor, however, and not all the physicians agreed on that. At issue Friday was the ad-missibility as evidence of two confessions—one written, the other oral—which the prosecution hopes to introduce before the jury.
Chisesi is accused of the shotgun-knife slaying of 15-year-old Rhett Blanke during a hunting trip on the Mississippi River batture near Violet Dec. 8, 1959. The maximum punishment is death.
The defense contends the confessions should not be allowed because Chisesi was legally insane at the time they were given.
The doctors disagreed as to whether Chisesi knew right from wrong at the time and was mentally responsible enough for the confessions to be valid. ,
