UNO officer nabs four ADGs By Andrew Nolan News Editor Four members of Alpha Delta Gamma fraternity face disciplinary action after the University of New Orleans University Police charged them with criminal damage to property on the UNO campus and turned them over to Loyola Student Affairs March 30. According to a police report, they broke a time clock and two phones and went swimming in Lake Pontchartrain, all in violation of UNO rules and regulations. ADG president Charles "Chip" Sandifer said that the fraternity was not involved in any way, and that the matter is between the students — Mark Muckerman, communications senior, Dennis Kaiser, political science senior; Todd Yuratich, communications junior; and Jeffrey Walker, business sophomore — and the university. According to a statement he filed with UNO University Police, Walker says the four "were doing 'pledge things' and were dropped off at UNO." He also admits that "after 'fraternity functions,'" he broke a time clock. In his statement. Walker says that he will replace it, and that he is "greatly sorry, and it will not happen again." When contacted later, Walker said, "If you have any questions, just speak to my president." Sandifer could not be reached for further comment. In his statement, Muckerman admits to possession of a telephone receiver and to swimming in the lake. Yuratich says in his statement that a pledge handed him a phone, and "because he is a pledge of our fraternity, we take full responsibility." Neither could be reached for comment. Kaiser says in his statement that he was brought to UNO by two persons. Kaiser says he "refute[s] any allegations that are against me. I believe that I have [not] committed any crime and I unfortunately cannot say the same for my friends." When contacted later, Kaiser was unavailable for comment. VincentP. Knipflng, vice president for Student Affairs, also had no comment on the situation, saying that the matter is pending discipline. Certain institutions, like Xavicr University and Tulanc University, do bring students here if they arc caught by security on the other campuses, Knipfing said. "UNO, because of the distance, is a little different thing. I think there, they give ihc student the option of being arrested or being turned over to us," he said. See ADG/page 5 jhyjktijk
