"Father Ruggeri, faculty advisor for Student Publications has given us the authority to collect all the necessary data for publishing such a periodical and already we have received answers from a number of humorous college magazines in response to a letter sent them for information and suggestions concerning the publishing of the issue," Mr. Klack said. The Maroon head intimated that he had not yet decided upon his staff for the quarterly but that it might be picked before the close of the school year. It may be that Paul Reising, Business Manager for the Maroon will also handle the debit and credit end of the quarterly but in case he finds it impossible to work both another Business Manager must be found. Donald Birdsong Makes National 'Mag' With Story Accountancy Journal Reprints Rules of Chesterfieldian Conduct The Certified Public Accountant, the official organ of the American Society of Certified Public Accounts, in its issue of March, 1931, carried an article written by Donald Birdsong, feature writer on the Maroon, staff, which was originally published in the Maroon of November 7. The article which secured this signal honor for Mr. Birdsong was entitled, "Etiquette in Exams," and was one of a series of humorous articles by Mr. Birdsong on the "Rules of Chesterfieldian Conduct." The Editor's note which accompanied the article in the Certified Public Accountant was as follows: "The Maroon, the student paper of Loyola University, New Orleans, in its issue of Nov. 7, presented the third in a series of Rules of Chesterfieldian Conduct. Twice a year, C. P. A. examinations are held in most of the states. Those who have been candidates for the certificate will appreciate this dissertation." Mr. Birdsong is a senior in the Department of Arts and Sciences of Loyola University, a member of the Beta Sigma Epsilon fraternity and has been a member of the Maroon staff for the past four years. ARCHBISHOP SHAW OFFICIATES AT MASS FOR FATHER NAVIN Holy Name Pastor Passes After Illness of Only One Month Thousands of his New Orleans friends silently prayed beside the bier of Fr. John J. Navin, S. J., as he lay in state in Holy Name Church Monday night, May 4. Fr. Navin, who was for twelve years pastor of Holy Name Church, suddenly passed away at Mercy hospital Sunday afternoon, May 3, after an illness of not more than a month's duration. Archbishop John W. Shaw officiated at the Requiem High Mass offered up Tuesday morning for Fr. Navin by the Rev. John W. Hynes, S. J., president of Loyola University. The great church was packed with tear-stained faces of friends who had come to say farewell to their be- Complete File of All Organizations Will be Qathered Maroon Asks For Co-operation of Campus Activities In Matter Temple Black, editor of the Maroon, announces that the Maroon is at present attempting to get a complete file on all the organizations on the Loyola campus, for the use oi the staff in compiling articles. On several occasions during the past year, reporters were forced to waste an enormous amount of time and energy in compiling material for certain stories. This work is necessarily reduplicated each year. Black therefore proposes to get a complete file, containing the history, membership, officers, purpose, date of foundation, etc., of all organizations on the campus. It is hoped that the officers of the organizations and fraternities will co-operate with the members of the Maroon staff in this movement, which should be of benefit to both parties concerned. DISTRIBUTION OF YEAR BOOK SET FOR MAY 29TH 1931 Wolf Will Be Most Beautiful In History of School The Wolf, Loyola's annual publication, will appear on the campus on May 29, according to an announcement by Bob Ainsworth, editor-inchief. This year's annual, it was expected, would &ppeaD" sooner, but, certain difficulties were met with in one or two sections, that necessitated the delay. The book, however, according to Ainsworth and several others who have viewed the proofs will be undoubtedly the finest in the history of the school. Special attention has been paid to the theme, "The History of Mardi Graf." Instead of as in past, two or three color printing, four color printing will be used in the theme for the first time in the history of a Loyola annual. All the lavish beauty of the New Orleans Mardi Gras will be brought out in the pages of Loyola's yearbook. The four color printing added much to the cost of the finished book, but the staff believes that it was worth the cost in added attractiveness to the book. Lecture Bureau Resumes Speeches After Inactivity Barker and Buchman Speaks At Sacred Heart and Shakespeare Home After a seeming relapse, the Loyola Lecture Bureau has been revived with a great vigor under the guiding hand of Mr. Jerome Mullins, S. J. On Monday, April 27, the first of a series of lectures was given at the Shakespeare home by Paul Barker. The subject was "The Ordination of a Priest," Bill Scheyd ran the slides. On Friday, May 1, Carl Buchman lectured on "The History of the Church" before a large audience at the Shakespeare home and on Friday morning, May 8, Paul Barker spoke to an equally large audience at the Sacred Heart Convent. The subject was "The Ordination of a Priest." Mr. Mullins has called a general meeting of the Loyola Lecture Bureau to take place immediately after examinations. At this meeting plans will be laid for next year's activities. A response will be sent the McGill Institute of Mobile, Ala., which desires the help of Loyola in its inauguration of apostolic work of this kind. Mr. Mullins intends sending the Alabama school some of the slides used by Loyola students this year. Next year's subjects will probably deal with Christian Marriage, Evolution, and the Divinity of the Church. Mr. Mullins said: "The Lecture Bureau is of peculiar value to the cause of Catholicity, for its trains the students to be leaders of the laity, which is so essential to the furtherance of our Holy Religion." SCOTCHMEN HOLD BACK DRIVE FOR NEW TENNIS COURT Student Council Buttonholes Studes; 160 Slips Have Been Signed So Far From present indications it seems that the long hoped for tennis courts will soon be a reality if a few of the students of Scotch extraction can be persuaded to loosen their hold on their breakage fees and cash in their share towards the tennis court fund. The members of the student council have done noble work in buttonholing students and persuading them i to contribute $2.50 towards the fund RIFLEMEN SHOOT IN COMPETITION AT ARMY BASE MAY 18 Two Teams To Vie For American Writing Machine Company Trophy The Loyola Rifle Club has been presented with a cup for which the members will compete on Monday, May 18, 1981, at the Army Supply Base Range on Poland Street. Conditions of the match which will decide the winners of the trophy were given in previous article. Briefly, the match will be between two teams selected from the members of the club, the course will be seventy-five feet, ten shots prove. The teams are: Team One—Harold Whitley, Nelson Guidry, Carl Fisher, August Cologne, Lawrence Grundmann, and Charles Goetz; Team Two—Gus Ricau, Bill Scheyd, Rafael Diaz, Bill Grillet, Lee Leßlanc and Tex Drouilhet. A representative of the Loyola Rifle Club was sent to a meeting held under the auspices of the New Orleans Rifle Club at the Army Supply Base on May 15, 1931, for the purpose of organizing an association of rifle clubs in New Orleans. It is believed that more can be accomplished by united effort than by the individual clubs.
