              loyola maroon March 2,1973  Vol. XLIX No. 18 SGA to investigate SAGA food service by JO ANN KOTTER The Student Government Association will conduct a thorough investigation of SAGA food service in an effort to resolve the numerous dissatisfactions expressed by Loyola students concerning its operations. The study will include an analysis of food prices of SAGA contract plan and the A La Carte dining room, service charges for the use of facilities, the quality of the SAGA operation and the opinion of the commuter and resident students who use the food service. Also included will be the investigation of the allegations made in the February 23 issue of the Tulane Hullabaloo concerning Louis Stadjel, manager of SAGA. According to an article in the Hullabaloo, three Tulane students were alledgedly paid five dollars for every other student they could persuade to join a SAGA meal plan. Stadjel denied the accusations. Pat Beauchamp, SGA Parlimentarian, proposed the motion at this week's SGA. meeting. "Instead of dealing with problems as they come up day by day, motion by motion on the SGA floor a long range approach must be devised. SAGA must be addressed directly. We must realize the problem, find a solution and then discuss it with the administration. This move will trigger some dialogue between the administration, SAGA and the SGA," said Beauchamp. He said is is necessary for SGA to investigate SAGA because it plays an important part in all students' lives. "SGA has never done anything for the Student Union. This is a redirection and a move away from negativism," said Beauchamp. Dick Chopin, SGA vice president, was defeated in a motion which called for the dismissal of Stadjel if the Hullabaloo's allegations are verified. Chopin feels that Stadjel has a "shady" way of doing business, especially in a collegiate atmosphere. He says Stadjel has done more to hurt the food service than help it. Beauchamp rebutted Chopin by saying that the SGA could do nothing about a man's job on the basis of one newspaper article. He said constructive action must be taken and factual data derived which could be presented to the administration. This would be provided under a formal investigation of the whole SAGA operation. Beauchamp added that his motion would help give positive imput and improve the planning process for Ms. Neitzschman, Dean Vincent Knipfingand those who are trying to replan things. Beauchamp said it was not the Hullabaloo article which motivated his motion but did say that the incident was just another conflict which he hopes the investigation will solve. Pat Beauchamp: "SGA must take a long range approach." Because of the university holidays next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be no Maroon next Friday.
