loyola maroon February 16,1973 Vol. XLIX No. 16 SGA suspensions sought for members Nine members of the Student Government Association (SGA) are liable to suspension from the SGA for having had three or more unexcused absences from SGA meetings. The SGA.on Tuesday adopted a resolution providing for the removal of any SGA member who has had a minimum of three unexcused absences from the weekly SGA meetings. SGA members whose seats are in jeopardy by the motion are: —Doug Dawes(BA) -John Dixon (CC) -Daryl Fletchinger (A&S) -Sal Nuccio (BA) —Ed Miranne(Law) -Martin Schmidt (CC) -Steve Shipley (CC) -Adam Stillo (A&S) -Jim Vance (CC) Some of the SGA members facing removal voted in favor of the motion. After the meeting Bob Rayhawk, SGA president said the motion was primarily for him to enforce the existing provision in the SGA constitution Article V Section 3 which states, "Any member who incures three unexcused absences will be automatically suspended. Any number of excused absences are permitted, provided the person submits his excuse in writing any time before or after the meeting. The president shall have final authority in determining whether an absence is excused or unexcused." Rayhawk said that he will check with the members affected and see if they have a valid excuse for their absences. Actually no action could ever be taken against the members for absences because the constitution provides for an indefinite time limit for a member to present an excuse, said Rayhawk.
