loyola maroon October 13, 1972 Vol. XLIX No. 6 Open house proposals formed by resident councils The drama department's latest production, "The World of Sholom Aleichem," opened earlier this week and will play for only two more nights, tonight and Saturday. The play is based on three nineteenth century Yiddish short stories. See page 9 for review. By RON TOMCZYK A new proposal for open house has been drawn up by the residence councils and has been signed by Ms. Lynne Neitzschman, Associate Dean of Students. It still needs the approval of Vincent P. Knipfing, Dean of Students, Rev. James A. Carter, SJ., Provost, and the university's Board of Directors. The proposal requests a total of ninety hours of open house per week and that each residence council could establish its own hours between 12 noon and 2 a.m. This proposal would increase the present hours by more than 300 percent. The council said that the increase would: give a growing capacity to be at ease when interacting with members of the opposite sex. create a more home-like atmosphere. facilitate group study. allow students to be placed in a situation where the respect and consideration of others is a primary concern. PENALTIES ENUMERATED Under the proposal, visitors would be asked to sign in and out of the dorms. Resident assistants will see that the guests have left the dorms at the end of the visiting hours. Persons who violate the visiting hour privliges will be penalize by the resident assistants. Penalties will vary from a two week revocation of visiting privileges for the first offense to eviction from the dorm for the third. Doors must remain unlocked while guests are in the room. Visiting privileges will While it can't be argued that Loyola lost its first rugby game of the year to Tulane, 11-3, it hardly matters. Playing is only half the fun. The other half is getting drunk, singing dirty songs and rolling in dog excretions. See page 10 for rugby feature. be withdrawn for one week for the first offense, and for succeeding offenses, visiting privileges will be withdrawn for the semester. The proposal has provisions pertaining to noise. "Residence halls should at all times provide an atmosphere which is conducive to the academic and personal growth of its redidents and excessive noise will not be tolerated." A violation of the carries the same penalties as having a locked door. Evaluation procedures The proposal also calls for certain "evaluation procedures" which will be used at the conclusion of the spring semester and for every spring semester for a period of three years. They are as follows: -Grade point average will be tabulated and compared to those of the spring semester of 1972. -The rate and extent of damage will be assessed and compared to the reports for the spring semester of 1972. -The occupancy statistics will be compared to those of the spring semester of 1972. -Reports from the resident assistants on "tour duty" will be reviewed for changes in noise, damage and "unusual occurance" factors. —Evaluation reports will be submitted for completion by housing staff and other student personel administrators. -Community and parental reactions will be sought and considered. photo by nguyen-le-minh John Bonck brings life into the character Alan Katz in "World" photo by vinnie grosso Loyola ruggers tap off a new season at Tulane Fr.
