The Loyola Maroon Vol. XLIII Loyola University, New Orleans, La., Friday, Nov. 11, 1966 No. 6 Freshmen Vote; Run-offs Slated Primary elections for freshmen Student Council representatives were held November 7 and 8. Those candidates who will face each other in the runoff are: A&S, President—Billy Gusta and Greg Reibenspies; Vicepresident—Rick Frey and Joe Looney; Secretary—Ann Bauknecht and Fran Burst; Treasurer—Ann Hooper and Carol Laughlin. BA, President—Tim Burst and Joseph Duggan; Vicepresident—Bill Boehmer and Lawrence Robert; Secretary— Kerry Leftwich, Sandy Ludwig, and Judy Trabulsi; Treasurer — Suzi Charbonnet and Beryl Ferrara. The final results of the Music School elections are; President—Michael Guma; (Vice-president—Janice Thomas; Secretary—Melanie Oustalet; Treasurer—George Marks. Several freshmen agreed that the primary vote was small because the voters did not know the people running for office. "If the candidates had made speeches, the voters would have had a chance to become better acquainted with the candidates," said Jan Fiegenshue, A&S freshman. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15 Final Freshmen Elections Conservative Club Lecture; 2B Danna Center, 8 p.m. New Orleans Archbishop Hannan Consecrates Women's Dormitory Buddig Hall, Loyola's new 12-story women's residence hall, was officially dedicated in ceremonies Sunday afternoon.Archbishop Philip M. Hannan consecrated the building. The archbishop was assisted in the ceremony by clerical members of the university's board of directors. The Very Rev. Homer R. Jolley, S.J., Loyola president, was present, and Murray C. Fincher, member of the Loyola board of regents, acted as master of ceremonies. Principal speaker of the afternoon was U.S. Rep. Hale Boggs. Rep. Boggs praised Loyola for its academic and physical growth, which is in accord with the great emphasis put on education by the 88th and 89th Congresses. "The new building on campus,campus, the caliber of the faculty and students, and other yardsticks are signs of the great progress Loyola has made . . . " he said. The hall is one in a series of planned buildings in Loyola's current development program, "The Campaign for Excellence." The dormitory was named Buddig Hall in memory of the late Henrietta Buddig Legier. Guest at the ceremony was John Legier, Loyola advisor and benefactor. A plaque of appreciation was presented to Legier by Barbara Edwards, president of the Women's Residence Council. Buddig Hall is the first permanent women's residence hall on campus. The building, which was constructed at a cost of $2.5 million, will house 429 girls, four to a suite, when completed. Single rooms are provided for counselors, and there are accomodations for house mothers. Facilities include a number of study and recreation lounges, laundry rooms, visitors' parlors, and a roof deck for games and athletics.Archbishop Phillip M. Cadets Elect Sponsors As Company Mascots Nine company sponsors have been chosen by the ROTC corps of cadets in a general election Oct. 27. The sponsors, representing the nine companies of Loyola ROTC, will be presented along with Mary Anne Sterck, this year's "Little Colonel," at the battalion drill on Nov. 17. — "Sponsors serve as the mascots of the various organizations," stated Major Louis N. Elmore, assistant professor of military science. "They function as a women's auxiliary for the various units, and assist the corps of cadets." The girls will be formally presented at the Military Ball on Dec. 7. The company sponsors are: Company "A" has chosen Beryl Ferrara as its sponsor. A freshman from New Orleans, Beryl is a marketing major. She has also been chosen as a co-captain for Wolfettes. Diane David, a junior from New Orleans, will represent Company "B." Diane is currently sweetheart of Sigma Alpha Kappa fraternity, a member of LSL, and publicity chairman for Theta Phi Alpha sorority.Freshman Beth Trouting is the representative for Company "D." Beth is from New Orleans and is a sociology major.Pershing Rifle Company will be represented by Jane Maher, BA junior from New Orleans. Recently elected to the Campus Court, Janie also participates in Cardinal Key, Spiritus, and LSL. She is social chairman of Theta Phi Alpha sorority, and is on the Dean's List. Campus Queen Sally Droppieman is the sponsor for the Rangers. A BA senior from Louisville, Kentucky, Sally is sweetheart of Alpha Delta Delta Gamma fraternity and a member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority. Suzi Charbonnet, BA freshman, will represent the Band. Suzi is from New Orleans and participates in Wolfettes, LSL and Spiritus. The Association of the United States Army has chosen Elizabeth Brousseau as their sponsor. Elizabeth is from Baton Rouge. BA senior Eileen Kuebel will represent Scabbard & Blade. Eileen is a member of Phi Phi Phi sorority, and is chairman of the Dance and Entertainment committee of the Student Union. She also participates in LSL, the Marketing Club and the Women's Interorganizational Council. R.O.T.C. Favorites ...
