              THe Loyola Maroon Vol XLII Loyola University, New Orleans, La., Friday, October 29, 1965 No. 4 Margaret Cloutier Elected Campus Queen Six Coeds And Queen Will Reign Margaret Cloutier, BA senior from Natchitoches, La. was chosen '65 Campus Queen to rule over homecoming festivities in an election held Monday and Tuesday. Selected for Campus Court maids in the same election were Mary Ann Sterck, A&S junior; Sue Breaud, A&S sophomore; Sally Droppleman, BA junior; Kathie Pearse, BA senior; and Janie Maher, BA sophomore. Evening division Maid is Dianne Ragan. Queen "Cloochie," Sweetheart of ADG, a two-year Campus Maid, and former member of Freshman Sweetheart Court, will receive her crown at Blue Key Talent Nite, Dec. 7, when she and her court are officially presented to the student body for the first time. Presentation of the Court will again take place during half time ceremonies of the Loyola-LSU game. The girls will also participate in other functions of Homecoming, including the Ball. An all over picture of the court shows it equally divided between three New Orleanians, Sue Breaud, Kathie Pearse, and Janie Maher, and three out of town coeds, "Cloochie" (Natchitoches, La.) Mary Ann Sterck (Miami, Fla.) and Sally Droppelman (Louisiville, Ky.). Mary Anne and Kathie are second year Campus Maids. Janie reigned as Freshman Sweetheart, with Sue a member of the court. STERCK DROPPELMAN BREAUD Tryouts For Talent Nite Begin Today—Heusel Tryouts for Loyola university's 28th annual Talent Nite to be presented by Blue Key National Honor fraternity on De- December 7 are scheduled for October 29, 30, and 31 in Danna center. Any student enrolled at Loyola is elegible to participate provided he turned in an application blank by Friday, October 22. All registered acts will be notified by audition chairman, Neil Heusel, concerning the exact time and place for auditions. Acts are placed in three classifications: individual, group, and variety. Individual acts are limited to four minutes and may request accompaniment by the Campus Capers. A group act consists of more than one person and is limited to six minutes. Within their nine minute limit variety acts may perform drama, skits, or other types of entertainment. After auditioning before the Blue Key membership applicants will be informed by mail concerning the status of their acts. All acts for the final show will be under the jurisdiction of Stage Manager, Tom Sartory. Each member of the act is required to pay a 50 cent fee covering insurance, makeup, and maids. Scenery, props, costumes, sound tracks, and any other special effects must be provided by each act. All acts must be completely ready for dress rehersal. Talent Nite Judges, selected from the community, present three trophy and pennant awards to each classification, excluding variety whose awards depend upon the number of acts. Talent Nite is part of the campus Homecoming activities and includes the presentation of the campus court to the student body and the public. The proceeds from the show, staged in the Loyola Fieldhouse, are used for campus improvements. Students who are not participating in Blue Key Talent Nite are urged to make plans to attend the performance. Tickets will be on sale soon, and support is needed to make it a success. Queen And Court . . . Loyola campus queen for 1965-66, Miss Margaret Clouticr, and her court of five beauties now begin their year's reign. The campus court this year is composed of two sophomores, two juniors, and two seniors. The campus beauties wil begin a hectic schedule of Secret Poll Results participation in Homecoming activities including the presentation at Blue Key Talent Nite, the Homecoming game and the homecoming ball. Loyola students voted in the six coeds from a group of twelve nominees for campus court last Monday and Tuesday. Bar Association Picks Redmann New Orleans Bar association member s in a secret poll have picked William V. Redmann, associate professor of law at Loyola, as the most qualified candidate for Civil District Court judge. Redmann is running against three other candidates in the Nov. 6 Democratic primary. The question put to New Orleans Bar Association members was, "Whom do you consider the best qualified for judge of Division D of the Civil Court in the Nov. 6 elections?" The names of the four candidates, all Loyola Law school grads, were then listed. According to a tabulation of the results released by Charles L. Rivet, bar association secretary, the votes were divided as follows: William V. Redmann, 228; S. Sanford Levy, 147; Guy J. D'Antonio, 129; and John Lanne, 5. In an interview with the Maroon, Redmann was asked what the issues in the campaign are. He replied, "The primary issue is qualification and the lawyers have said that I'm the most qualified. The secondary issue is home rule in the election of judges as opposed to appointment of judges by politicians." Redmann emphasized the point of political patronage in referring to the second place winner in the bar association poll, S. Sanford Levy. "Levy's present position as judge of the first city court has been promised to Frank Klein by Gov. McKeithen to get Klein out of the D.A.'s race," Redmann said. The practicing lawyer and professor on the faculty of Loyola's law school, Redmann has B.S. and LL.B. degrees from Loyola and an M.A. in philosophy from Notre Dame. He has done one year of graduate fellowship work at the Tulane law school. He is a member of the New Orleans, Louisiana, Federal and American Bar associations. He has also been a law research clerk to judges of the Civil District Court and Court of Appeal. Besides these many accomplishments and duties, Redmann is also on the planning committee of the civil law section of the Louisiana State Institute. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of YMBC and is married and the father of eight children. REDMANN '65 Enrollment Sets Record A record 3956 students are now enrolled at Loyola according to figures released this week by Mr. Frank J. Stass, registrar of the university. The report lists 2228 students in undergraduate study, 619 enrolled in Loyola's professional schools, 429 graduate students, and 680 students enrolled in Loyola's cultural school. The official breakdown: arts and sciences, 1004; music school, 94; business administration, 402; evening division, 666; dental hygiene, 62; dental school, 221; law school, 398; cultural school, 680; post graduate biology, 9; post graduate education, 94; post graduate business administration, 143; chemistry teaching, 24; mathematics teaching, 135; physics teaching, 23. Pert Queen 'Surprised' And Happy By CAROL BEREZNAK "Cloochie" — pert, sparkling, spirited, and Loyola Horn ecoming Queen for 1965-66. Miss Margaret Cloutier, more often known as Cloochie, begins her reign as queen. "I can hardly believe it. I feel so honored I don't know what to do!" This was Miss Cloutier's reaction. She said that to her there is no other honor on campus that carries so much with it, and she is looking: forward to all the festivities of Homecoming Week when she will be able to represent Loyola as queen. The ' five-foot-two, browneyed, blond-haired beauty radiates enthusiasm and school spirit wherever she is in Loyola life. Among her long list of Loyola activities are Theta Phi Alpha social sorority, LSL service sorority, Phi Chi Theta, national cummerce fraternity, and Beta AlrDDD; P«i nniio"**! accounting fraternity. "CLOOCHIE" has been sweetheart of Alpha Delta Gamma for two years. She has also been on the campus court for two years, and was on the Freshman Sweetheart Court. In her high school days she was on the Homecoming Court and served as cheerleader. The new queen is from Natchitoches, La. and the youngest of four children. Upon graduation she plans to pursue the same course as her father by becoming a certified public accountant. With the coming of Homecoming Week, Clouchie will be taken up in a whirlwind of activity assuming her title as queen with all the elegance and spirit that she has displayed in the past and for which she is being honored.
