Competing- for the title are Joan Gisevius, BA senior; Dianna Holt, BA senior; Kay Mcßrearty, A&S senior; Marie "Licky" Moore, A&S senior, and Mary Tucker, BA senior. Miss Wolf, to be chosen from among these in a secret ballot by the members of the staff and five faculty members, will not be announced, but will make her first appearance when the yearbook comes out at the beginning of May. Joan Gisevius, a senior in marketing has maintained a 3.9 cumulative average during her four years at Loyola and has been named to the dean's list every semester, receiving scholastic awards in both her sophomore and junior years from her sorority, Phi Phi Phi. Joan is a member of Cardinal Key national honor sorority, Beta Gamma Sigma business honor fraternity, Phi Chi Theta national business fraternity, Tri Phi social sorority, Lambda Sigma Lambda service sorority, Women's Panhellenic Council, Spiritus, and the university Sodality. She is presently president of Cardinal Key, of Beta Gamma Sigma, of the Women's Panhellenic Council, representative to Tri Phi and LSL and 011 the board of directors, of Spiritus. She is also the national councilor and convention delegate for Phi Chi Theta. Among her other offices held and honors received she was named to Who's Who in her junior year and awarded the Corrado-Ahern award for the outstanding business administration sophomore.Dianna Holt, a senior in mathematics and business, has maintained a cumulative average of 3.2 and been named to the dean's list for three semesters.She is presently president of Tri Phi and a member of Phi Chi Theta, the Student Union hospitality comimttee, and the WPC. Dianna is also in Who's Who and a member of the Homecoming Court. She was an ROTC sponsor in her junior year and on the freshman sweetheart court in her freshman year. Kay "Peaches" Mcßrearty, a senior in mathematics, has maintained a cumulative average of 3.5 and been named to the dean's list for four semesters. She is a member of Rho Chi Theta math honor society, the Student Union current events committee, the WPC, and LSL. Kay received the scholastic pledge award from her sorority, Tri Phi, and is presently vice-president of it. She is an executive council representative and Panhellenic representative. Among her many chairmanships are that of the Tri Phi college bowl team, Tri Phi Greek Week, and homecoming decorations. Kay is a charter member of Rho Chi Theta, being executive secretary in her junior and senior years and a member of the constitution committee. Kay was named to Who's Who in her senior year. Marie 'Licky' Moore is president of Kappa Beta Gamma social sorority and of the secondary education club. She is also treasurer of Cardinal Key, chairman of the intramural board, and a member of Who's Who. Past social chairman for KBG she was also a member of Tri Beta honorary biology society. Mary Tucker is presently president of Sigma Sigma Sigma social sorority and secretary of Beta Gamma Sigma. A member of Who's Who she is also a participant in Phi Chi Theta and the Women's Panhellenic Council. She has been on the dean's list every semester and the honor's convocation recipient for three years. Music Auditions To Start Tomorrow Auditions for scholarships to Loyola's college of music will be held tomorrow and Saturday, in the college of music building from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. The auditions are open to high school seniors and persons eligible for college. Scholarships are being offered in piano, voice, opera workshop, woodwind, brass, strings, band and music therapy. Students wishing to enter the scholarship auditions should contact Mr. Micheal J. Carubba, dean of the college of music, for application forms. Those residing outside the New Orleans area are invited to submit tapes or recordings. Members of the Loyola music faculty will judge the auditioning students. Candidates will be tested on their instrument or voice Pharmacy Braves Trouble Loyola's college of pharmacy began this Spring semester with only 14 students and the task of regaining its accreditation. The college helped its seniors transfer to the University of Houston and to Northeast Louisiana college in Monroe in view of the present unaccredited status of the college. Mr. Louis Wilson, interim dean of the college, said the seniors had no other choice since Louisiana law crar!nation frnm an snknni of pharmacy before taking the state pharmacy examination. At present, the remaining 14 students are taught by seven faculty members, six of these hold doctor's degrees. Fifty-nine students were enrolled in the Fall semester, but 45 have transfered. Sixteen of these were seniors. Wilson predicted that most of the underclassmen would return when the college regained its accreditation.The college lost accreditation during the summer of 1964 and has been seeking re-accreditation based on recent changes. When the American Council on Education completed its routine examination last year, they cited the lack of special equipment for research and the shortage of one faculty member as reasons for disaccrediting the school. New equipment was purchased, and Dr. Edward J. Ireland, former dean, returned to full-time teaching and research as a faculty member. The college was still seeking a new dean. "We've spent about $45,000 altogether on new research equipment," he said. "We're trying to do everything possible to get back into the fold." Council members were expected to visit the campus sometime in the near future to examine the school and its request for re-accreditation. Dean Wilson said three dates were submitted to the board, but no word had been received as to when the visit would take place. "Council members will visit us at one of the convenient dates," Dean Wilson said, "and we hope to become accredited again." Dean Wilson and the Very Rev. Andrew C. Smith, S.J., university president, appeared before the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education in Chicago January 11-13 to present Loyola's case for re-accreditation.Father Smith said the trip to Chicago was made in hopes of convincing the board of the seriousness in which Loyola was making the necessary changes. "I felt we could better explain this personally than by letter," he said. The president said he and Dean Wilson went to Chicago feeling a lot had been done to improve the college. "We wouldn't have gone if we didn't think so," he added. THE VERY REV. ANDREW C. SMITH, S.J Dominican Named To Faculty Theology Department The Rev. J. Emile Pfister, S.J., chairman of the theology department, announced Tuesday the appointment of a new part-time member of the department, the Rev. Gilbert Roxburg, O.P. Father Roxburg, former theology instructor' at St. Mary's Dominican college, will replace the Rev. John Stacer, S.J. Born in Chicago, Father Roxburg attended Northwestern university, Evanston, 111., and Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., majoring in speech and drama. He entered the Dominican Order in 1950 at the novitiate, St. Peter Martyr Priory, Winona, Minn. He received his Ph.B. and Ph.L. and Pontifical Faculty of Philosophy at St. Thomas College (Dominican House of Studies), Chicago in 1953 and 1954. Formerly a literary editor of Croi* and Crown, a quarterly of spiritual theology, Father Roxburg is a contributing author to Priory Press series of texts for college theology, and to high school texts in Christian doctrine. He also writes a column in the Clarion-Herald and other newspapers, contributes to The Bible Today, Spiritual Life, Today, Catholic Digest, Marriage, Cross and Crown, and others. Just recently he helped in establishing the Contemporary Formation Group, a monthly meeting of New Orleans nuns for keeping up in the current trends in theology. FATHER ROXBURG Chem. Loan Awarded For Science Buildings The United States Health, Education and Welfare Department Wednesday announced a $1,674,000 loan toward construction of a new chemistry building and a new physics-mathematics building on the Loyola university campus. Total cost of the two new structures will be about $3.6 million, according to the Rev. Homer R. "Construction of the struc tures, each to be several stories high, will begin within two years," Father Jolley said. The new chemistry building will include a large instruction area and a computer center.Father Jolley said the corner of Calhoun and Marquette pi. has been chosen tentatively as the site of the buildings, to be built side by side. The buildings will be part of Loyola's long-range development program, the priest said. The Very Rev. Andrew C. Smith, S.J., Loyola president, expressed gratification over news of the loan. "It represents an important part of our overall plan to take full advantage of the Higher Education Facilities Act of 1963 in order to update and expand our science facilities," he said. "In my opinion it should strengthen our case for a grant from the state commission charged with administering Louisiana's part of the federal funds for college expansion. We have at present two applications in for such grants and we should have a response within the next month or so. "A favorable response together with this loan should put us well on the way to filling what for several years has been a great need at Loyola, namely modernized and expanded facilities for science." Who's Who Names 36 At Loyola Thirty-six Loyola students have been named to Who's Who among Students in American*- Universities and Colleges, announced the Rev. William J. Junkin, S.J., dean of students.
