The LOYOLA MAROON ★ 1962 1912 * Loyola's Golden Anniversary Year No. 10 Vol. XXXVI Loyola University, New Orleans, La., Friday, December 1, 1961 Homecoming week begins Sumday Alumni to return to campus By GAYE SAUCIER "There's Joe, haven't seen him in years. The old son-ofa-gun sure has gotten bald. And that's the classroom in which I spent hours pondering philosophy." Yes, it's Homecoming again when the alumni return to their Alma Mater to reminisce, compare, learn and generally have a good time. Homecoming begins Sunday and runs through Saturday. The Alumni Mass will be the first event Sunday at 8 a.m. in Holy Name church. The alumni association will give a breakfast after in the university's cafeteria where the class of 1941 will be honored. A new event, the deans conference, will be 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Marquette auditorium that afternoon. The deans will give brief reports and answer questions of the alumni. The cocktail party will begin at 5 p.m., lasting to 7 p.m. Sunday. One thousand former ttudenti will have a chance to see former clatimate* and dUcuis old time*. The traditional convocation on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the fieldhouse will be in honor of the Golden Jubilee of Loyola's charter this year. Thirty-five grads of 1911 and 1912 will be honored at this time because Loyola began as a university in 1911 though it did not receive its charter from the state until 1912. Honorees include graduates of the College of Immaculate Conception, a forerunner of Loyola, and New Orleans College of Pharmacy, a forerunner of the Loyola College of Pharmacy. The jubilarians will receive a plaque in honor of their contributions to the community. A breakfast will follow in the trophy room for them. Honorees of the Class of 1911 are Lucien J. Troxler, Dennis A. Casey, Sr., Walter McMurray, Dr. Octave C. Cassegrain, Herbert W. Waguespack, Edmond L. Kimble, Joseph M. Rault, Herman H. Bierhorst, John F. Dixon, Jr., Joseph J. Gerache, Oliver J. Hebert, Guy L. Leefe, Sr., A. Kent Lindsay, P. B. Manouyrier, J. B. Sanarens, C. C. Chapman and Mrs. Lurline W. Pitcher. Graduates of 1912 being honored are Dr. J. Maxime Perret, Raymond P. Bassich, Sr., Edward A. Durel, Christie E. Everett, Henry J. Miller, Thomas C. Nicholls, Jr., C. L. Seeman, John St. Paul, William A. J. Tonglet,. Charles W. Ziegler, Jr., Ignatius C. Kernaghan, Carl E. Ramos, Berton L. Daniel, Armande Dellande, Joseph O. Gianelloni, Hunter Huddle, Oscar W. Lewis, Sr., and E. L. Normand. Tuesday night, when the Wolfpack meets the California Aggies in the fieldhouse, is the big night everyone is waiting for. A student cavalcade will precede the game and the fraternity and sorority decorations will be judged Tuesday. Wednesday is Loyola day at the Fair Grounds. Homecoming queen, Brenda Levy, and her maids, Cynthia Sliman, Kay Poole, Carolyn Meyer, Connie Marquer, Beth Feehan and Frances Weber will view the races from the judges' stand. The alumni luncheon will be Thursday at noon in the Roosevelt hotel. A special Forum lecture has been added to the Homecoming agenda. Charles Brennen, FBI agent of Washington, D.C., will be guest speaker Thursday night in Holy Name school's auditorium. Blue Key talent night will unfold Friday at 8 p.m. in the fieldhouse. Individual students and campus groups will Tie for the coveted Blue Key awards. The court will be introduced to the students. Nominated for secretary are: Judith Dupont and Kay Sliman, A&S; Elaine Wolfe and Gerelynn Ailine, BA; Cindy Lee and Alicia Theriot, music. Treasurer nominees are: Gerald Rault and Douglas Giorgio, A&S; Joseph Casey and Robert Bentel, BA; Carolyn Bass and James O'Neill, music. Three candidates running for A&S frosh president because of a difference of only three votes between Yoekey and Vaccaro. The Student Council approved Tuesday a recommendation by the election committee to allow Vaccaro to run. With the above exception, the qualifications for election candidates are placing first or second in the nominations, except when a tie occurs for second place in the nominations. Vaccaro's nomination sparked an argument in the Student Council meeting this week. He had been notified that the election committee had decided he could run as third candidate. Debate over whether the committee had the final say or if the Council had that power dominated the meeting. EENEY, MEENEY—Froth election* are full of indecision for the voters who sought to choose their representatives from the many active candidates. CAROL LUTON, bedecked with propaganda, makes her choices from the bulging list. Alpha Sigma Nu taps 15 (See picture, page 8) Alpha Sigma Nu, national Jesuit honor fraternity, inducted 15 new members Sunday in ceremonies in Marquette hall. They were formally inducted in the president's office and then moved down to the student lounge for the reception of their keys and scrolls. The Rev. Edward A. Doyle, S.J., dean of faculties, represented the administration as the students received recognition for scholarship, loyalty, and service. The new members are Harry Prieto, James Foley 111, and John H. Chavanne, BA juniors; Clarence H. Dolese and Frank T. Tusa, pharmacy juniors; Christopher D. Meyers and Tristan Jimine, A&S seniors; James O. Skiffington and Walter O. Eckert, evening division; Carl Smith and Dennis R. Yeaker, A&S juniors; Nelson D. Castellano, dentistry seniors; James Doyle, music junior; Arthur K. Kingsmill, law senior; and J. Louis Watkins, law junior. REIGNING ROYALTY—Pretty BRENDA LEVY, BA junior will reign over the 1961-62 Loyola Homecoming festivities which start Sunday, Dec. 3. Brenda and her royal court will be formally presented at the annual Blue Key talent night, Dec. 8.
