              the MAROON Vol. XXXVII, No. 8 Friday, December 18, 1959 TRAHAN AND TOYOS SPLIT LU TALENT NIGHT HONORS By JOHN QUIGLEY Edward Trahan and Lionel Toyos of the evening division split top honors in the individual competition of Blue Key's 22nd annual Talent Night held last Tuesday in the Fieldhouse. Trahan scored with a trumpet solo of "Melancholy Rhapsody" and "Mack the Knife" while Toyos' medley of Mexican songs drew favorable responses from the judges. Barra Birrcher, A&S senior, and Elaine Bevinetto, BA junior, captured first place honors in the group competition as they asked via an interpretive dance, "Who's got the pain?" Theta Phi Alpha social sorority won the (kit competition with a look into the future of Loyola aD dominated by women. The title of the presentation was "L0y01a—1999." Wanda Height, music sophomore, received second place honors in the individual competitions with a harp-solo of "Some Enchanted Evening." Jean Parker, A&S junior, and Ruth Retif, music sophomore, tied for third place in the individual classification. Beta Alpha Epslon social sorority garnered second place in the group competition with a tropical dance entitled "Jamaican Holiday." Third place went to the Lambda Sigma Lambda service sorority with a "Tribute to Dixie." Sigma Alpha Kappa social fraternity clinched second place in the skit competition with a rock 'n roll version of "It's a Sin to Tell A Lie." The evening division took third place with a skit entitled "Hillbilly Hilarty." The evening's entertainment was preceded by the formal presentation of the 1959 Campus Court, featuring the crowning of the queen, Isabella Livaudais, by last year's lovely, Camilla Tamborello. Rosemary Falgoust, last year's winner in individual competition, was a featured guest along with John Paquette, a 1955 winner. A leather brief-case was presented to Bob Winn, president of Blue Key and master of ceremonies for the event, as a tribute to his handling of the night's activities. Judges for the Talent Night were Jerry Romig, program director for WDSU-TV, Tony Nailer, news director of WSMB and Lorraine Gorreau, woman's page editor for the New Orleans States- Item. Individual Titlists INDIVIDUAL WINNERS—A tie for firit place brought these two evening division students to the limelight in individual competition at Blue Key Talent Night. They are LIONEL TOYOS, left, who sang a medley of Mexican songs, and EDWARD TRAHAN, trumpeter. Group Winners GROUP WINNERS—AII smile* are ELAINE BEVINETTO and BARRA BIRRCHER whose lively dance rendition of "Who's Got the Pain?" brought them first place in group competition at Blue Key Talent Night. Patrick Donnelly, S.J. 3Si Haydel Cops Title As 'Sweetheart' In Frosh Election A PETITE A&S frosh from Houma, Judy Haydel, has been selected Sweetheart of Loyola's freshmen class. THE SEVENTH Frosh Sweetheart in Loyola's history, Judy was elected in balloting held Monday and Tuesday in the quadrangle. She was chosen above five other candidates picked in nominations held the previous week. THE OTHER nominees were: Jeanie Jones, Brenda Levy, Carol Crawley, Pam Leak and Sally Schwarzenbach. Haydel received 65 votes, Jones 46, Levy 38, Crawley 34, Leak 34 and Schwarzenbach 20. THE SWEETHEART will be officially presented at the Sophomore Cotillion which has recently been integrated by the student council with the junior-senior prom. The tentative date for the event has been set for February 12. THE FIRST Freshmen Sweetheart, Jackie Keiffer, was elected in 1953. Others who have held that honor include: Janet Perrault, 1954-55; Millie Marshall, 1955-56; Jo-Ann Zazulak, 1956- 57; Yvonne Boening, 1957-58 and Kay Poole, 1958-59. HAYDEL IS the present sponsor of the ROTC band and she was recently crowned International Rice Queen in Crowley, La. "Sweetheart" SWEET AND LOVELY—The girl with the peaches V cream complexion is JUDY HAYDEL who is Loyola's 1959-60 Freshman Sweetheart. Judy is the seventh "sweetie" in the university's history. She was honored above five other candidates in recent frosh elections.
