LARRY HENNEBERGER WELCOME FRESHMEN By JUDY BROCK If you're a typical freshman, you're probably standing around in your bare feet right now wondering what college is all about. AFTER A week of intensive orientation with the emphasis laid on studies and hard work, you are forced to climax your second week of classroom contact with university life with no shoes. And just to complete the picture, I don't suppose wearing a beanie and singing endless verses of the fight song is your idea of collegiate behavior. BUT THERE is a very logical method in what seems like complete madness, and unless you detect what that method is and respond to it, you have a lot more to learn besides next week's class assignments. Loyola is more than just Marquette Hall, or textbooks, or ROTC drill. Loyola is a little world populated by a sample of the same individuals you'll have to cope with long after college days are over. And weak relations with the teachers and classmates you encounter here could be the' handwriting on the wall. NOW DON'T let your sense of values become warped—you have come to Loyola, first and foremost, for an education. But don't limit your education to the printed matter between two book covers (or to gleanings from cafeteria chatter either, for that matter). "Get the big picture," as the politicians tell us, and harmonize Getting Acquainted AIN'T COLLEGE GRAND?—Even with studying lessons and dodg ing upperclassmen, freshmen have found time to get to know one another—or maybe they just believe in the ole adage of "strength in numbers." RITA BAKER and GEORGE BROUSSARD stroll together for that feeling of fortitude. Rules And Regulations NOW LET'S SEE—Froshies, FREDDIE BOURGEOIS and CAROLYN BAKER dutifully study the "freshmen bible" in anticipation of the callous and unfeeling questions from menacing upperclassmen this past week. Freddie may be laughing but he admits it's a "nervous" laugh in contemplation of the "barefoot country boy" act enforced today. (See FROSH, page 8) Wolf Pics October 5 (See story page 8)
