The MAROON Vol. XXXVI Loyola University, New Orleans, La., Friday, May 8, 1959 No. 19 HAMMEL HEADS STUDENT BODY Rozas Wins Pharmacy Runoff (See story, page 3) New President Promises Plenty' Leads 'Pack' By JUDY BROCK Newly elected student council president Bill Hammel, is already promising a lot of things for the coming year. Hammel, an A&S soph, was named to the top council post by acclamation at the induction of the new council members last Thursday in the student lounge. Past president Jerry Hoskins administered the oath. Other officers include Paul Rozas, vice president; Isabella Livau'dais, corresponding secretary; and John Henneberger, treasurer, all elected by acclamation. Also, Kay Poole, recording secretary; and Dalton Wallace, parliamentarian. Hammel pointed out that of the 28 council members elected, only six have student council experience. "However, I feel that there will be no trouble orientating these people to the activities of the council, because of the high caliber of the students elected," Hammel said. Projects under consideration include elimination of date book confusion, wiring the cafeteria for a music system, a junior-senior prom, and a bigger and better Sophomore Cotillion and Jambalaya Party. "We would like to sponsor another dance or campus activity, and we hope to improve on all existing functions," he said. One of the biggest problems which confronts the Hammel administration is the campus parking problem. "We already have several plans in mind to alleviate the acute parkingBILL HAMMEL Students Cop Honors, Keys At BAA wards Con vocation Pat McGinity and Bob McLaughlin, seniors, received two of the highest awards at the annual Business Administration Awards Day Convocation held Tuesday morning in Marquette Hall. McGinity was awarded the John X. Wegmann, Sr. Achievement Award by the Very Rev. W. Patrick Donelly, S.J., university president, and McLaughlin received the Curtis-O'Shea Award from the Rev. Joseph A. Butt, S.J., regent of the college of business administration.Father Butt was master of ceremonies for the presentations in the absence of Dean Henry J. Engler of the BA college, who is ill. The Rev. Edward A. Doyle, S.J., vice president of the university,university, spoke to the students on "Leadership on the Campus." George Pabst, senior, president of Pi Kappa Epsilon business fraternity, presented outstanding freshmen awards to Pat Mains, Bill Caldwell, Darryl Tschirn, and Charles Goslee. Dr. Ralph G. Smith, associate professor of management, presented the Society for the Advancemen of Management Medal for the student displaying the most proficiency in management, to Fred Lipps, senior. The Pi Kappa Epsilon Award for exceptional service to the fraternity, was presented to George Pabst, senior, president, by Dr. John V. Connor, professor of economics.
