Henry "Hank" Kuzma gave his resignation to the Rev. W. Patrick Donnelly, S.J., Wednesday afternoon. In his resignation coach Kuzma, who has only been head basketball coach here for one year, said that he would like to take advantage of the option in his contract and resign his posts. The letter of resignation read: "I should like to exercise the right of option in my contract and to formally submit to you my letter of resignation from the posts of assistant athletic director, varsity basketball coach and instructor on the faculty of Loyola University."I have made it a practice to measure my progress periodically so that I may secure an adequate living for my family. My age, talents and reputation are my best investments and it is in the best interests of these that I submit this resignation." While at Loyola, Kuzma compiled a 10-16 record, the worse since 1950 when Jim McCafferty set a new low in Loyola basketball records with a 7-18 season. The Rev. James J. Molloy, S.J., athletic director, said that he wishes Kuzma luck in whatever he undertakes. "I hope he is happy and does well in any endeavor he tries," Father Molloy said. Coach Kuzma will leave Monday with his wife and two sons for Pittsburgh but stop on the way in Louisville, Ky., to attend the coaches' convention there and attend the NCAA tournament finals. Kuzma said he will "attend the NCAA finals, a must on the list of every basketball man, then go on to Pittsburgh and Hattisburg to visit our families." Last year coach Kuzma piloted Stubenville (Ohio) College to a brilliant 24-1 record and was named the country's top small college coach. Kuzma leaves Loyola with an impressive won-loss record for any college coach. His college coaching record presently stands at 105 HANK KUZMA wins and 35 losses, 16 of which came this year. Player comment on coach Kuzma'i resignation ran from praise to sorrow. John Henneberger, a sophomore who did not see much action this year, put it, "It's a tough racket for coaches." His brother, Larry, was finishing dinner 4" the cafeteria. He hadn't heard the news yet. "You're kidding," he said. Larry Trunk, a sophomore who started his varsity career in the spring semester, said that there were a few boys on the team who didn't care for Kuzma, but "he was such a nice guy you couldn't help but like him." Father Molloy said applications will be sent to prospects and the returned ones will be screened until the university decides on next year's cage mentor. Kuzma was the sixth head cage coach since 1945. Jack Ors- cuatu since i jtj. jack v/r»- (See KUZMA, page 5) OEDIPUS at COLONUS 7ON/GH7
