Meacham is the executive editor and vice president of Random House publishing. He has been the editor of Newsweek and has contributed to a number of magazines and other publications. Meacham is the author Jackson in the White House," for which he won the Pulitzer Prize for biography in "As a winner of a Pulitzer journalists and of excellence in communications and journalism," Wildes said. Meacham said he is honored and j excited to speak at commencement. "I am a great admirer of the Jesuit educational tradition, and, ever since Andrew Jackson defeated the British there, a great admirer of New Orleans," he said in an email. "I was honored to be asked, and I am very much looking forward to being with the Loyola community." Higginson, former College of Law professor, is speaking at the College of Law commencement | ceremony. He now serves as a judge I for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the sth Circuit. "I had seven wonderful years teaching at Loyola, and it is an honor to be able to come back and to give thanks," he said. Both commencement ceremonies will be held May 12 at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Hannah lannazzo can be reached at hbiannaz@loyno.edu Jon Meadiam Stephen HigynsoN Buddig stirs up complaints By GEENAM ACEVEDO Contributing Writer Buddig residents and faculty say the construction is disruptive As construction crews push forward with the preliminary Buddig Hall renovations, some of the buildings residents and commuters say they are discontent with what they feel are serious inconveniences. The residence hall's construction is currently going on between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. While the construction crew drills away, the building is full of people trying to sleep, study or attend class. According to Craig Beebe, director of Residential Life, there have been two email complaints about this issue. Beebe said he is also aware of Facebook postings "commenting on various student complaints related to renovation work and other topics." Jade Tang, criminal justice senior, is living in Buddig for her fourth consecutive year and prefers to do her studying and homework in her second-floor room. According to Tang, the noise from construction has gotten so bad that she finds it challenging to perform her usual tasks. Loyola hires provost to begin in July By AAREN GORDON Staff Writer Marc Manganaro will be the new provost and vice president of Academic Affairs as of July 1. Currently, Manganaro is dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and an English professor at Gonzaga University in Washington state. "I am pleased to welcome Marc to Loyola," said University President the Rev. Kevin Wildes, SJ., in an email. "His academic background, scholarship and commitment to the mission of Jesuit education as well as his extensive administrative experience make him an excellent choice for Loyola." As he learned more about Loyola, he said he became increasingly interested in the university and in the city. University President the Rev. Kevin Wildes. S.J., and the Board of Trustees approved a 2.5 percent increase in salary, with one percent allocated for equity adjustments.
