"Much of the department's laboratories are very complex, being filled with delicate equipment, glassware, frozen tissues and organisms* that cannot be moved quickly or easily, Hood said in an email. Hood is one of many professors who will be temporarily relocated during the Monroe Hall interior renovations. Edward Kvet, provost and vice president, said minimal disruptions will occur during the 2012 to 2013 school year. It is not until fall 2013 that major disruptions will begin, including the moving of departments, Kvet said. Debate on wage gap has been cancelled By HANNAH lANNAZZO Assistant News Editor Walter Block withdrew from the debate The debate on the gender wage gap between economics professor Walter Block and Women's Resource Center director Karen Reichard has been cancelled. The debate, "Should Women Make Less then Men?", was intended to highlight opposing arguments regarding feminism and the wage gap between men and women. Loyola Society For Civic Engagement was asked to moderate the debate scheduled for Monday, March 12. Block said his reason for pulling out of the debate has to do with the responses he and the university received from his column published in The Maroon on March 2. The piece was titled "Several fatal flaws mar the feminist movement" and was published alongside a column by Reichard. "I wish I could participate in the debate, but I feel that it will add to the heat," Block said. "And (the debate) would not be a conducive learning environment, which is what the university is all about." Although the debate has been cancelled, Reichard said she does not plan to give up on educating students on the subject. Whenever people saw the 27-year-old, they couldn't help themselves. His humorous nature, bubbly personality and propensity for seeing the good in everything drew in friends and faculty, regardless of the situation. "Every single time I spoke with him, no matter what the circumstance was, he had a smile on his face," said Frankie Weinberg, assistant business professor. "It would really enliven any type of situation and make people feel welcome. More than anything, that smile is what's ingrained the most in my memory of Matt." Mr. Jones, finance and accounting double senior, died Feb. 26 after sustaining injuries from a motorcycle accident the previous weekend. "Anytime you have a death of a young person, Matthew Joims Loyola student University hires first emergency manager By LUCY DIECKHUAS Staff Writer Loyola has taken steps to become more equipped for emergencies by hiring an emergency manager. Stephen Murphy was hired in January and began the position on Feb. 27. The emergency manager position was created in part as a response to previous threats at other universities like Virginia Tech.
