Transcript/Translation	1803, December 20 PROCES-VERBAL OF THE RE-INSTALLATION OF THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF NEW ORLEANS UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES. CD. 2pp. French. Richmond. Today, December 20, 1803, the Commissioners of the United States, William C.C. Claiborne ¹ and James Wilkinson, ² assembled in the meeting room of City Hall with Citizen Pierre-Clement de Laussat, Colonial Prefect and Commissioner of the French Government, with the aim of receiving from him the ownership of this colony. After this important act had taken place, His Excellency, the said William C.C. Claiborne, appointed by the President of the United States as Governor General and Intendant of this province, had his proclamation read. He is temporarily maintaining all of the public officers appointed by the French Government, as well as all of the municipal ordinances previously issued. Consequently, the Mayor and members of the Municipal Council (with the exceptions of Mssrs. [Evan] Jones and [Pierre] Sauve, who handed in their resignations), having been reelected and reinstated, sat again in their respective places.
